Everyone is talking about the new drama school in Surulere, Lagos

In this exciting world of technology where many children have become more computer literate than their own parents and schools have large budgets to develop technology, there is an after school activity everyone is talking about. And, this term, students in the Surulere area of Lagos State are hearing about it too. The good news for parents is children, between the ages of 5 and 17, can enrol in the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy.
In this fast-moving world, many children are learning to communicate by text, email and social networking and, because of this, they may lack the essential talking skills necessary for them to speak up with confidence and have something worthwhile to say and interesting to listen to.
Success in later life is often dependent on our development as a child. Building sound verbal communication skills in the early years is paramount to unlocking the world in which we live. Realising a child’s creative and expressive potential through drama is a key to a child’s healthy development. In England and Wales, 2011 has been named as the National Year of Speech, Language and Communication and in the Academy’s exciting drama classes children have a great time practising just these skills.
Classes starts in October for the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy, and new Principal, Ibukun Fasunhan is very excited to be part of the most popular drama school in the country. Ibukun Fasunhan; a masters degree holder from the Department of Creative Arts, Unilag, is a stage manager, director, and an actor. He stage managed the just concluded ‘Saro the Musical’, and has been involved in several productions which includes 'Rubiewe' an adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, "Death and the King's Horseman" by Soyinka, 'Heartbeat', “Madmen and Specialist’, 'Lion and the Jewel', 'Shaka Zulu' and many others. He also directed and produced the play ‘Maybe Tomorrow’ which was stage at Terra Kulture this January.
